For just one week, The Thornbury Quilt, made in 1900 and recently purchased by the Museum, will be on show in Thornbury Town Hall.
The Museum has been invited by the Severn Vale Art Trail organisers to have the Thornbury Quilt on display at the Showcase Exhibition for the Severn Vale Art Trail.
But hurry! The Showcase Exhibition is on for just this week. Head for the upstairs chamber in the Town Hall any day this week, Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm – finishes Sat. 25th April.
The Quilt is over a hundred years old and its red and white squares feature birds, flowers and symbols representing the tradespeople of the town in 1900, together with the names and initials of some of them. It offers a snapshot of the life of Thornbury in 1900 – from Bond’s bicycle shop to Poole, the local photographer, from Symes the saddler to Yarnold the watchmaker.
You can read a detailed account of The Thornbury Quilt here, on our sister website, Thornbury Roots.
The Museum has recently purchased the Quilt, re-discovered in a local farmhouse in 2013 after years boxed away. To recoup the purchase cost and pay for the conservation of the Quilt, we are now running a Sponsor-a-Square campaign. You can read more about the campaign here. You can be a part of it!
