Thornbury Roots

Thornbury Roots is a fantastic website, compiled by Chris & Sandra Doig, members of the Research Group at the Museum.

It contains a mass of historical information about houses, streets and people of Thornbury, as well as aspects of Thornbury life (e.g. the railway, the police). If you are trying to research family members from the Thornbury area, this is a good place to start. There are also links to various databases of source materials. You can cheerfully spend hours and days on this website.

You can access the website in the comfort of your own home but we also have it readily available on our downstairs computer in the Roman Coins room. This gives you the chance to talk to museum volunteers about your family connections – and may result in a request that you bring in some family photos!
