Well, we’ve discovered there’s certainly an appetite for learning about Thornbury’s railway history.
Ninety people attended Meg Wise’s recent talk on ‘Thornbury and the Railway’. Other people wanted to attend but couldn’t because the venue had reached its capacity. It was, as always with Meg’s talks, amazingly well-researched and beautifully illustrated. The photograph above, showing Thornbury Station in about 1910, is a good example.
As ever though, Meg was keen to point out that all local history is a ‘work in progress’. She continues to explore the subject and to welcome information, photographs and stories – and so, if you have information about our local railway, do please pop into the museum and give your contact details so that we can follow it up.
Meanwhile, if you’d like to read something about our local railway line – or perhaps find out about the railway bridge that used to span the Severn – our shop may have something for you. Heather, the volunteer who manages the stock in our shop, has made sure that it is well stocked with two popular local railway books.
