Traders
Butchers were plentiful in Thornbury before rules came in about not having abattoirs in backyards. Ogborn’s delivery cart distributed meat from their shop in the High St.
Servants
In our Upstairs Downstairs display, you can learn about these servants who staffed Thornbury Castle in 1882. We have all their names.
Professions
Engineers who have worked on Concorde and other aerospace projects are among the latest in a long line of professional people who have worked in our area.
Fishing
Some farmers who lived near the River Severn used to catch salmon and eels. Salmon putchers can still be seen in the town today, filled with flowers, and we have one hanging in the museum.
Craftspeople
Skilled craftspeople will always gravitate towards towns. This man laid the bricks to make these beautiful chimneys for Thornbury Castle.
