Sandi Shallcross is at the heart of museum operations and continues to be so but she has recently stepped down from chairing the Council of Thornbury and District Heritage Trust, the governing body of the museum. Her leadership of the Trust is celebrated on the website of the South West Federation of Museums and Art Galleries.
She’s pictured here, holding up the museum’s first Accreditation certificate. That was in 2009 and was awarded by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council. When the time came to apply for re-Accreditation, responsibility for museums had passed to Arts Council England. Again, Sandi led the museum through an accreditation application and the museum was successfully re-Accredited in 2013.
Sandi has really fostered the museum’s friendly, professional approach, which so encourages community involvement. She always pays full tribute to the teamwork at Thornbury and the fantastic contributions – of all different kinds – made by scores of people, all volunteers, as Sandi herself is.
Thankfully, Sandi is continuing to play a major role, doing everything from answering emails to masterminding the sponsorship campaign for the Thornbury Quilt to reviewing items in the collection to liaising with local Thornbury groups (such as Thornbury in Bloom and the Severn Vale Art Trail) to running the monthly Geology Group!
